Praying for Archbishop Justin Welby

As of today, it is 40 days till Archbishop Justin Welby is enthroned in Canterbury Cathedral.
When he became Bishop of Durham, Justin called his diocese to 50 days of prayer, but we figure it’s not so easy to do that amid the hype of taking up such a vast and prestigious role as Archbishop of Canterbury, so we at Canterbury Boiler Room Prayer Community thought we would get on and do it ourselves.
So we are inviting people to join us on a 40-day prayer journey, from today until 21st March, praying for Archbishop Justin as he prepares for this new season in his life.

We have compiled a prayer diary for the next 40 days (starting today, Sunday), and there are various ways you can access it:
1. Contact me through the Contact Form on this website to request an emailed copy of the diary, along with some background info on the roles and responsibilities of an Archbishop, and some news of the Enthronement.
I must warn you that the 40-day diary is the least aesthetically pleasing thing you will ever have come across It is a very wordy table … but the point of it is that it contains all 40 requests on 1 page, so you can print it out, stick it somewhere you’ll see it, and check out the prayer point for each day with the minimum of hassle.

2. The prayer points will be posted on the Canterbury Boiler Room blog:
http://canterburyboilercommunity.wordpress.com/

3. The requests will be posted daily in our ‘Canterbury Boiler Room Prayer Community’ Facebook group.

4. You can get the daily prayer points on Twitter by following @Pray4ABCJustin

This is a vital season for the Church in our Nation, and Justin needs all the prayer we can muster, so please join in!

‘Neighbours, Transform your Street’, a book I helped to write …

This isn’t exactly new news, but I should really have posted it here 6 months ago.

Last year I was asked to collaborate in the writing of a book to help people get started praying for their local neighbourhood. Most people I know would like to be an influence for good and for transformation in their local area, but have no idea where to start, so we felt there was a gap in the market for something which would give some theory, lots of stories and lots of practical ideas.

The main author of the book is a wonderful woman called Rebekkah Brettle … a woman who lives out this praying for your neighbourhood thing like no-one else I know. It is a passion of hers, and she inspires me, so it was a privilege to be asked to help with some of the more ‘nerdy’ prayer bits. In truth the work is far far more hers than mine, but I was honoured to have been asked to help.

The book was written in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer and Worship at Wembley Stadium on 29th September 2012.

Should you be interested in acquiring the book, here is the Amazon link:

Should you be interested in more resources along this line, do visit the website www.neighbourhoodprayer.net … this is a project Rebekkah is heavily involved in and has loads more to offer the aspiring neighbourhood-transformer!

It’s me talking about myself, my heart for prayer and my top tip for kick-starting your prayer life.

Some challenging words for the Church in 2013

… and a good description of how I often feel!

Fearless warriors in a picket fence,
Reckless abandon wrapped in common sense,
Deep-water faith in the shallow end –
We are caught in the middle.
Eyes wide open to the differences,
The God we want and the God who is,But will we trade our dreams for his –
Or are we caught in the middle?

A talk on spacious places

If you’ve listened to me speak lately, or read any of my Bible quotes on Facebook, or generally had a conversation with me about anything deeper than biscuits, you’ll probably know I’m thinking/praying a lot about the idea of spacious places at the moment. It’s a theme God uses in the Old Testament particularly, to explain something of what his inheritance for his people is all about.

Anyway, I did a talk on it at the marvellously-named ‘Glorious’ Undead’ church in Camden recently, and you can listen to it here if you’d like to:
http://www.guchurch.co.uk/2012/07/finding-the-spacious-place-that-god-has-for-each-one-of-us/

Thanks to the GU-ers, who always bless me, never fail to encourage me and who are living something extremely powerful in that place right now. I haven’t been in worship like that for a long time! It was awesome!

This is a fantastic resource for helping you pray throughout the Torch Relay. There’s an A3 poster for your wall/fridge, plus a smaller one to carry round with you. One side shows the route, and the other lists all the communities the Torch will pass through. There’s even a blessing prayer you can pray.

The posters are free, but they do ask for a contribution towards postage and packing if you can.

Phone – order by calling 08456 188 315.

Let’s not leave a single yard (metre if you’re metric) of this Relay uncovered in prayer.

Jean Darnel’s prophecy for the UK

I just came across this … haven’t read it for years, and I’m not sure I’ve ever read the full version. I was amazed and inspired all over again by what God is doing in this nation of ours, so I thought I’d post it.
